Boston duck tour

Boston hotels

I heard about this by chance, and thought it sounded great fun. I made the reservation and turned up to the appropriate place early enough to ensure a good seat on the vehicle. It was a lovely day, and so getting one of the outside seats was a bonus I didn’t appreciate at first, although those who sat in a sheltered seat didn’t have any complaints either! The “Ducks” are amphibious landing vehicles remaining from World War II – this means that as with their namesakes they are at home on both land and water. It was this interesting combination that attracted my attention – a tour offering the best of both worlds!

The first part of the tour (which lasted just under 1.5 hours) was spent on the land and journeyed through most of the usual Boston tourist trail – passing the likes of Quincy Market, Prudential Tower and the state house with its impressive golden dome. Part of the fun of the tour was the attention our “Duck” received from the people passed, and the stories told by our “ConDUCKtor” were interesting and often had everyone laughing.

Once the highlights on the Duck’s road tour were complete we abandoned land and splashed into the Charles River. By now it was getting warmer, and so I wouldn’t have minded getting wet but the “splashdown” was dry. Only the breeze afforded a little moisture by lifting a gentle water spray off the river now and again. The views from the river were spectacular and it was a wonderful way to end what was a fun and relaxing tour. When I return to Boston, this is certainly on my list of things I’d like to repeat!
